Candy Dulfer: Funky as Ever

Back in 2007 we first saw Candy Dulfer (picture below) in concert in Las Vegas.  This was our first year full timing. Right after our return to Mesa this year we got to see her again at the MIM (Musical Instrument Museum) in Phoenix. We were in the 2nd row, and she's as great as ever.

Candy and her band have been together for many years and their performance was proof of their chemistry/funkiness.  She is so popular that the MIM, which had booked her for just one show, requested she and the band perform four shows over two nights!  For those of you not familiar with this superb performer, she plays the alto-sax and sings as well.  Here is a line to a video of one Candy’s performances for your listening pleasure:

And here are some photographs from this year at the MIM:

Candy comes from the Netherlands and a musical family.  She started performing at the age of three!  Her solo career began with her own band at age 13, and she has been touring the world ever since then.  She collaborated with Dave Stewart and released her first number one hit “Lily Was Here”  [click here to see a short video clip from that night].  Candy also toured with Prince and his band for many years.

Luckily we also were able to see her perform “Santa Baby” in 2011 during the Christmas tour with Dave Koz and group and a couple of more times after that.

Barb and I certainly hope to see Candy perform several more times!  To read our 2007 blog entry go to:
